I loved This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan this year and am looking forward to Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan coming out in May. Jasmine Guillory also has Flirting Lessons coming out this spring, and my mom got me Life Almost by Jennie Agg for Christmas because Jennie Agg has been one of my favorite Substack authors. I got myself the paperback of Fat Talk for Christmas (Kate Mann wrote a new foreword).
It sounds like a great year of reading and self-discovery! I read/listened to a lot of middle grade books this year, as I worked with my youngest child through his battle of the books projects and then to find books that amp up the joy factor so that reading isn't just about school assignments.
For books I chose myself, some fiction favorites were: The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters, The Unwedding by Ally Condie, Sandwich by Catherine Newman. Non-fiction: Tenderheart by Hetty Lui McKinnon--yes, a cookbook!, Circle of Hope by Eliza Griswold, Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic and What we Can Do about it by Jennifer Breheny Wallace.
Here's to another year of reading discovery for all of us!
I love the thoughtfulness you've brought into your reading! It's inspired me to think more deeply about how I want to show up as an avid reader in 2025
Love the idea of finding a podcast about a book when you are done reading it — sometimes audiobooks have interviews tagged on the end and I’ve always been so surprised and happy to listen to an author talk about their process. I want to be more mindful about how I read and add more non-fiction. I also love seeing what others read and have enjoyed - so many books I’ve never even heard of here. There are so many books in the world.
I’ll second that The North Woods was sooo good, but read don’t listen to that one.
I liked Dutch House read by Tom Hanks too! And I don’t even like Tom Hanks! Meryl Streep reads audiobooks and she delivers (as one would expect) with Tom Lake.
Thanks for this list and this thoughtful review of how to make the time to read!
I can’t wait to read the mighty red. I love Louise Erdrich and often find it hard to explain why. I also loved long bright river and I’m looking forward to reading her new book. I think the best book I read this year was The North Woods by Daniel Mason. I love hearing about what others enjoy reading, thanks for sharing!
I love the idea of a TBR cart!
I was influenced by Virginia Sole-Smith. I love it, it brings me joy to look at.

I got the paperback, too! I had listened to it on audiobook previously and I am excited to read the foreword and revisit it.
I’d borrowed it from my sister so I decided I needed my own copy since it’s one of those books that I find myself referencing in conversation often!
I read (and loved!) Tom Lake by Ann Patchett this year. I think it would also be a good audiobook listen.
I read it, too. Although now I wish I had done it on audio for Meryl Steep.

Ooh I have Berry Pickers on my list. I loved Sandwich so much. And Never Enough is fabulous as well.

Thank you Eliza!
I also enjoyed Weyward, and if you liked that one, you may like “The Change” by Kiersten Miller.
Ooh, adding it to my list.

Clearly, I'll be adding The North Woods to the list. There are so many, many books in the world.

I've added The North Woods to the list. The Mighty Red and God of the Woods are so good!
I am so happy you found your way back to fiction this year ❤️
And you have certainly helped me find my way, thank you Katy!
