I am so impressed and LOVE that you were able to get to the movies so often! I'm debating going to see Twisters and I think this is my sign to make it happen!
I love most of your recommendations, but the one about the daughter having “mild autism” gave me the icks. I am autistic and I have 2 autistic daughters. In the neurodivergent community, certain labels are not seen as helpful anymore. It’s more useful to say that a person has “low support needs in academics” for example. Especially since ND people tend to have “spiky” profiles of ability. And, as I’ve discovered with my own children, every day is different. Some days, my kids don’t need any help with emotional regulation. Other days, we’re all melting down! For followers that are interested in more ND-affirmative resources, I suggest looking into Neurowild and Kristy Forbes.
Thank you for your comment. I love Neurowild and Kristy Forbes, they are excellent resources.
I agree the author's language is not what I would use and is not ND affirming. I removed the link for now for the online version because it is important that this is an inclusive community. My intention in sharing the article was based on having some recent offline conversations with parents who have ND children with lower support needs who are having trouble finding community. In reflection I wished I had introduced it with more context. I really appreciate your response. I am the parent of ND kids with spiky profiles, so it is definitely true that every day is different.
Later in the fall there will be a post that touches some on language and some other ND affirming resources (assuming I stick to my proposed schedule :/ ).
Thanks for the round-up! I devoured Sandwich in one sitting on our return flight this month! So good--and my tween was only mildly embarrassed by me holding the book over my face laughing and crying. Maybe he's used to it.
We wrapped up our annual visit to family this month. The rest of it has been spent recovering from travel and prepping for school--today is the second day of school for my two. I have watched a lot of Vera on britbox! Also, BLUEY! My youngest started watching it on the plane and has been watching it at home ever since. So fun.

It's definitely a new phase of life where we can go to the movies as a family. I have yet to go to a "grown up" movie though. Some day, some day...

Good luck with back to school, Tiffany! Oh Bluey, it's so good.
Thank you for the shout-out, Kathryn!!!
Of course, I loved that podcast episode.
