These are great recs, thank you, Kathryn! I love pop culture podcasts and listening to recaps of the Bravo shows I literally just watched. I also love Nora McInerny's Terrible Thanks for Asking podcast. Brain Candy is good too (when I feel like I need a little culture to complement Bravo.)
Ooh! Looking forward to checking these out! I listen to Hidden Brain, Happiness Project, and Revisionist History, and On Writing. Raising Boys is a good parenting podcast by a fellow substacker.
Don't forget podcasts for kids! My podcast, Kids Ask Dr. Friendtastic, has weekly 5-minute episodes featuring an audio recording of a question about friendship from a kid (age 5-13) plus a practial and thought-provoking answer. There's also a transcript and discussion questions.
KidsListen.org lists a bunch of kid podcasts, including Brains On and But Why?
Yes-podcasts for kids are great, they have saved us in the car many times! Maybe I will need to do a kid podcast edition in the future, and yes Eileen's podcast is great!
I think I’m in a minority — can’t ‘do’ podcasts. Would much rather read something. I do appreciate it when someone takes the time to write a transcript.
I always include an easy-to-read transcript with my podcast, Kids Ask Dr. Friendtastic. I find it hard to follow those automated transcripts that break up every line. Paragraphs are a good thing! ;)
I can relate to so much of this. It took me until postpartum with my second kid to start reading again (self-identified book nerd over here), so that was essentially 3 years w/o reading and I definitely started feeling not-so-smart and that brain-melty experience of only speaking to toddlers all day long.
Anyway, I love burnt toast and under the influence, too.
Other favorites: you’re wrong about, movement logic (I am a movement teacher so this one is job-related), unlimited (with my friend Valerie Friedlander), Ezra Klein, conspirituality, mothers quest, and culture study. There are others but those are the ones I look forward to every week.
My favorites right now are Edit Your Life with Christine Koh, The Sporkful (it's not for foodie, it's for eaters), and Stuck in Stoneybrook (a series literary analysis of the Babysitters Club!).
Sometimes I check in with I've Had It because those women are hilarious and always good to make you laugh over something that could make you cry.
While none of these are about motherhood (I’m in the grandmother age bracket now) I have found these incredibly inspiring. Most hold interviews with fascinating people. I hope that you enjoy!
Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris, I Weigh with Jameela Jamil, On Being with Krista Tippet, Tara Brach, The Happiness Lab with Laurie Santos, Tricycle Talks The Buddhist Review, and The Good Life Project.
Good recommendations here! I like the Ezra Klein show, Anne Helen Peterson’s Culture Study Podcast, and I’ve recently gotten back into listening to Radiolab.
Also to the person who said she’d rather read a transcript: Burnt Toast always has a transcript! And it’s edited, so it’s a good transcript - sometimes unedited transcripts don’t read quite right to me. Any way, that’s one that I always read, because I know it’s a good transcript and I can read much faster than listening.
Burnt Toast is of course always delightful. I also enjoy Time To Lean Podcast with Laura Danger and Crystal Britt and Tom and Lorenzo’s Pop Style Opinionfest. I listened to a few episodes of Bachelor Happy Hour with Joe and Serena when The Golden Bachelor wrapped up since they talked with both Theresa and Leslie. I do tend to seek out more Bachelor content whenever a season ends, and I am feeling very emotionally invested (I was very much Team Leslie, and while of course I appreciated why he chose Theresa, the emotional breakup with Leslie was intense).
This is great! I've found a few new podcasts to add to my TBL list :)

I am loving this comment section because it gives me new things to listen to :)

Eileen, your podcast sounds awesome! What a great idea!

I always appreciate a good transcript, especially if I want to go back and dig in more.

Love you to consider Parents Who Think podcast. It's the only parent debate show - it's definitely debate done different.
I'm bringing over discussions about debate topics to the Parents Who Think substack soon ;)
Danusia, I can't wait to check it out!
Thank you so much!

I just can't get over how fun it is to learn about what people listen to and find new things to check out.

I love these recs! I have been trying to bring in some other non-mother specific content lately.
I love Strict Scrutiny to give me snarly and thoughtful update the US Supreme Court. https://crooked.com/podcast-series/strict-scrutiny/
Hysteria for left leaning women related current events: https://crooked.com/podcast-series/hysteria/
And I spend a lot of time listening to books on Libby.
Julie-I want to check these out!

Yes-Burnt Toast has an awesome transcript!
I love Culture Study too, I always feel surprised how what feel like random topics are so interesting.

It's a lovely way to extend your watching after a favorite show is over!
