I stopped writing on Substack as frequently back in February. I have written a handful of times since then, and I still enjoy it very much, but I don’t want to return to a weekly practice of posting. It helps me when I am anxious to write, but not everything I write has to be published. Journaling helps too!
LOL, the LIME!! That is a deep breath kind of moment for sure. I love how guilt free and simple you allow for the slippage to be, and that you ask not "how do I get back to that" but "why did I let it go?" It feels like such a small and such a huge shift in how to approach getting back.
Such a good post to read today, as I feel adrift. Much of it is the weather, since we are still in summer survival. It is hard to go outside and move regularly, which are my favorite old friends. My alternatives are harder to sustain this year, but that's how it is sometimes. Some of it is the recognition that middle school is less like starting a new season of life than a new era! It changes relationships and schedules and priorities in many ways, and feeling settled might be a misplaced goal.
In a few weeks, the triple digit temps will end. I'll try new ways of maintaining and building connections this fall, week by week, and pick up the old favorites to see how they fit now. Sometimes returning to the old favorites can spark a little grief--they aren't always the same and we aren't always the same. I think dealing with that is sometimes the hardest part.
I love this piece Kathryn! It's so interesting that when life gets busy, it's these helpful behind-the-scenes practices that slip through the cracks first! For me, meditation is a big one, as is journalling. I feel more grounded when I do both consistently - but you know, life gets in the way, days turn to weeks and it feels harder and harder to get back into them. I appreciate the solidarity and encouragement you provide here that we all lose sight of things that are beneficial for us from time to time, and the gentle reminder that we can reconnect with them at any time 💛

What a great way to re-assess what is serving you best. It's always reasonable to change course if it no longer serves you.

Thank you Alexis! Yes, a lime--like what's your plan there exactly?
Margarita?! 😂

I am so glad this was the right post for right now. So many changes going on. I read this post https://open.substack.com/pub/marikapaezwiesen/p/just-wait-until-right-now?r=2ao7s2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web from Marika Páez Wiesen and it feels spot on for some of what you are talking about.
So good! Thanks for passing this along!

Thank you, Ruhie. Yes, of course it happens when you need these things the most. And yes, we can always come back. Thanks for reading!
