Great article by Sasha Kahn. The joy of reading to a child, and benefits of reading for the child, make it a win, win situation!

My daughter is 5, and of course she loves to watch her favorite shows, but she also loves when we read to her every day; we started reading daily when she was a baby and her earliest words were all the animals because we read a lot of books about the farm or zoo early on. These days we read a Bible story every day and a lot of Little Golden Books since they have all her favorite movies- Moana, Frozen, Inside Out, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, etc.

Her book collection is already massive (we also have already read A Little Princess and The Secret Garden to her as well so that was more of an undertaking). I’m not surprised she loves when we read to her. My husband and I bonded over how much we loved to read when we started dating (apparently he was a big Nancy Drew fan when he was young, and I was a Sweet Valley devotee because I am a twin, and these days we both have our favorite authors we gravitate towards).

Such a gift to a child. I spent many happy hours curled up with A Little Princess and the Secret Garden. And of course Nancy Drew, and yes - Sweet Valley High! I lived for that series so long ago! Thanks for sharing.
