Love for bookmarks + a parent-approved bookmark GIVEAWAY
Hello! This post is a part of Reading While Parenting’s Messy Summer Reading Club, which drops into your inbox every Saturday until August 23rd. If you are not interested in receiving posts on this particular topic, you can opt out by deselecting “Reading While Parenting” here.
I was excited to see this bulletin board at my local library. This is quite an impressive collection.
I love a good bookmark, it’s small but mighty. It plays an important role in the reading process. Yes, e-readers present a bookmark-less existence, but there is something about having the tangible bookmark in your possession that feels special. So many stories to explore and so many places it will travel.
I’ve noted that people often have a bookmark style. Take, for instance, my household.
My oldest prefers the smallest sliver of paper possible. This is possibly environmentally friendly, but also leads to many lost bookmarks.
My second-oldest prefers bookmarks with a declaration of ownership.
My younger ones have not yet embraced bookmarks, unless you count the removal of others’ bookmarks.

A parent-approved bookmark
This year, I’ve found a useful bookmark. It is well suited to a parent who may need to leap up with speed to intervene for a milk flood, potty emergency, or any other fluid incident while simultaneously marking their page. I got these when I had shoulder surgery and have continued to use them. They work generally well, but are not magical. They can’t hold your place when an excited preschooler clears the coffee table in one swoop in anticipation of Play-Doh, dumping your book on the floor. But they work well enough.
I’ve only found these through Amazon. If anyone knows a non-Amazon source, share it in the comments.
How about a bookmark giveaway?
I am giving away a set of these parent-approved bookmarks. So if you're interested in new bookmarks and a handwritten note from me, all you have to do is be a subscriber to A Wonderful Mess and comment in the comment section of this post before next Saturday (June 28th, 2025), and you will be entered. I’ll pick at random from the commenters.
US readers only—sorry to my international friends.
The comments section is what we make of it. Feel free to answer any or all of the questions below.

Currently using a bookmark my child made a couple of years ago for mother's day because I temporarily misplaced my parent-approved bookmark (now found). My bookmark is The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett. It is very dark comedy but I've really been enjoying it.
I use anything and everything that fits between the pages of a book. That may have once included a tampon wrapper. 🫣
